WhatsApp will soon play YouTube videos.

Image
Have you ever received a youtube link in your WhatsApp conversations? Clicking the link takes you to the YouTube app / website. Well in this day and age, most applications such as Flipboard and even G-reader play YouTube videos within their interface. WhatsApp has been playing a catch up game and we are glad it is finally sorting up YouTube links. In an  upcoming update,  video links will play inside the WhatsApp conversation. The update will take advantage of the picture-in-picture feature of iOS platform;  this means that a small window will float on top of the conversation interface. A pinch to zoom gesture will resize the window, but you can still watch the video in full screen if you so desire. You will be able to continue chatting with your buddy as the video plays however, leaving the conversation which has the link and entering another one will automatically stop the video streaming;  it’s the same way WhatsApp handles audio playback. At the moment, ...

Samsung overtakes Apple, becomes world’s biggest phone maker

Image
Samsung Electronics is now the world’s largest maker of mobile phones, memory chips and most profitable tech firm, going by its record quarterly earnings released today,  The figures show that the South Korean tech giant is on course to overtake Apple as the world’s most profitable tech. The firm said huge sales of its new Galaxy S8 smartphone and demand for its memory chips were behind the jump in April-June and predicted another blockbuster report for the current quarter to September. It said operating profit soared a forecast-beating 72.9 percent from the previous year to 14.07 trillion won ($12.6 billion), compared with consensus forecasts of $10.6 billion for US titan Apple, which is due to report next week. However, Greg Roh, an analyst at HMC Investment Securities, told AFP: “Samsung has surpassed its rivals for now but Apple usually sees little fluctuation in its profits whereas Samsung’s profits fluctuate largely on memory chip prices.” The world’s top ma...

Facebook constantly tracks your location –Here’s how to stop it

Image
nigeriannewspapers.today Jul 17, 2017 1:00 AM Snap Map –bva Snapchat feature — allows users to see their friends’ location on a map. Many people regard it as a large invasion of privacy. However, Facebook now has a similar feature, but instead of mapping locations with map-like accuracy, it will tell you when friends are in the nearby area. It’s only accessible through the mobile app and displays the neighbourhood your Facebook friends are in when nearby. The feature is called “Nearby Friends” and many people are not entirely sure of its purpose. Surely, if you want to let someone know you’re in the area, you’ll just text them, right? Or Facebook message them if you want to stay attached to the app in some respect. Here’s how to turn it off, anyway: Menu button > Explore > Nearby Friends (it may already be disabled, in which case no changes are necessary). From here, go to gear button/settings and swipe the ‘Nearby Friends’ button at the top to disable the f...

US. House panel approves legislation to speed deployment of self-driving cars ON JULY 27, 20177:55 PMIN TECHNOLOGYCOMMENTS

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – An influential U.S. House committee on Thursday approved a revised bipartisan bill on a 54-0 vote that would speed the deployment of self-driving cars without human controls and bar states from blocking autonomous vehicles. The bill would allow automakers to obtain exemptions to deploy up to 25,000 vehicles without meeting existing auto safety standards in the first year, a cap that would rise to 100,000 vehicles annually over three years. Automakers and technology companies believe chances are good Congress will approve legislation before year end. They have been pushing for regulations making it easier to deploy self-driving technology, while consumer groups have sought more safeguards. Current federal rules bar self-driving cars without human controls on U.S. roads and automakers think proposed state rules in California are too restrictive. The measure, the first significant federal legislation aimed at speeding self-driving cars to market, would require auto...

Jeff Bezos’ brief stint as world’s richest human ends with Amazon’s second-quarter whiff

Image
Menu Posted  17 hours ago  by  Matthew Lynley ( @mattlynley ) Amazon reported its earnings today, wherein a whiff in earnings sent the stock down around 3 percent and brought CEO Jeff Bezos back to reality as the, once again, second-richest human in the known solar system. In all seriousness though, this is a big quarter for Amazon as it looks to close out its $13.7 billion bid for Whole Foods. The company appears to once again be squeezing out a very small profit on top of its mammoth retail operations, and that will only face more pressure as it looks to wrap up that deal and gain control of hundreds of retail outlets across the country. The drag here is that Amazon is offering a big range in its income that goes into the red — projecting anywhere from a loss of $400 million to a profit of $300 million. The company has had a nice stretch of profitability even as it spends aggressively on growth, but it appears that might come to an...

SpaceX’s very first Falcon Heavy launch set for this November

Image
Falcon Heavy, the high-capacity rocket created by SpaceX designed for bringing very large loads to orbit and beyond, will get its first launch this coming November, according to SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk. Musk shared the news on Instagram on Thursday, posting an image of a concept depiction of the rocket’s launch alongside the target date. The Falcon Heavy uses the combined power of one Falcon 9 rocket flanked by two additional Falcon 9 boosters to propel up to around 30 tons to geostationary transfer orbit. SpaceX had shared video of a static test fire of the Falcon Heavy core at its Texas facility earlier this year, and is working on targeting payload launches next year, with a first commercial launch planned for later in 2018. This first test launch could have some very interesting results – Elon Musk himself set expectations during remarks made at this year’s International Space Station Research & Development conference earlier this month. Download the White Paper Google's augmented reality goggles were a flop several years ago -- when intrepid explorers wore the devices in restaurants and bars, sparking reactions ranging from disapproval to outright violence -- but they have become very welcome in the workplace. Their success in a host of business settings led The Team at X on Tuesday to announce an expansion of its Glass Enterprise Edition program. The latest version of Glass looks like a pair of safety glasses, but it's really a small, lightweight wearable computer with a transparent display that can bring information into the wearer's line of sight.
